1. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre [Blu-Ray] (1948)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A worthwhile entry on the AFI 100 list, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre works for those who want a manly adventure or who prefer something with more subtext. It benefits from generally excellent acting, a compelling story, and deft direction. The Blu-ray gives us good picture and sound along with a terrific set of supplements. The Blu-ray delivered a st

2. The Asphalt Jungle: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1950)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Unusually character driven for a 'heist movie', The Asphalt Jungle uses its expository time well. It also comes to life with excitement when necessary to create a vivid, involving drama. Starring Sterling Hayden, Jean Hagen. Criterion, $39.95, 12/13/2016.

4. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum [Blu-ray] (2019)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After the first movie launched the series well, the second flick sputtered and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum continues the downward spiral. Though its action thrills for much of the first act, the film soon becomes repetitive and tedious. Starring Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry. Lionsgate, $39.99, 9/10/2019.

5. John Adams [Blu-Ray] (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Blu-ray adds some minor new extras, but they’re definitely not enough to warrant a “double dip”. If you don’t already have the DVD, the Blu-ray is the way to go, but I suspect fans who do own the DVD will be fine if they stick with it. Starring Paul Giamatti, Laura Linney. HBO, $79.98, 6/16/2009.

6. The African Queen [Blu-Ray] (1951)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not the best of the John Huston/Humphrey Bogart collaborations, The African Queen provides a likable romantic adventure. It works mostly due to the chemistry of its leads, as the interaction between Bogart and Katharine Hepburn elevates the material. The Blu-ray boasts excellent visuals but the audio seems lackluster. In terms of supplements, we on

8. John Adams (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While John Adams starts slowly and occasionally stutters, overall it creates a winning achievement. It brings out a unique perspective on the early days of America and presents an unsentimental depiction of those events. We find a dignified examination but not one that suffers from the torturous stiffness that so often mars this sort of program ... This

9. The Maltese Falcon: Special Edition (1941)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Without question, Falcon is a must-own classic, and I heartily endorse this new special edition. That goes for new buyers and those who already own the prior release. The 2006 release adds plenty of terrific extras and offers greatly improved picture quality. This is a stellar set that I recommend without hesitation. Starring Humphrey Bogart. Warner, $29

10. The Man Who Would Be King (1975)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Overall, The Man Who Would Be King is a winner. The movie provides a very satisfying combination of adventure, drama and comedy and does so with flair to spare. However, the DVD itself offers mediocre picture and sound with a few minor extras. It’s a good movie but a flawed DVD. Starring Sean Connery, Michael Caine. Warner, $19.98, 11/18/1997.
